Kirchenasyl - Church Asylum
Kirchenasyl ist die zeitlich befristete Aufnahme von schutzsuchenden Flüchtlingen ohne legalen Aufenthaltsstatus, denen bei Abschiebung in ihr Herkunftsland nicht hinnehmbare soziale und inhumane Härten verbunden wären.
Während des Kirchenasyls werden alle in Betracht zu ziehenden rechtlichen, sozialen und humanitären Gesichtspunkte im Rahmen des sog. Dossier-Verfahrens geprüft. Ziel eines Dossiers ist es nachzuweisen, dass die Entscheidung der jeweiligen Behörde überprüfungsbedürftig und ein neues Asylverfahren erfolgversprechend ist. Hierbei ist insb. zu beachten, dass das Kirchenasyl kein eigenes Rechtsinstitut ist, sondern als Ausdruck einer christlich-humanitären Tradition von Seiten des Staates respektiert wird.
Zuständig für die Einreichung des Dossiers ist das jeweilige katholische Länderbüro.

Church asylum is the temporary admission of refugees seeking protection without legal residency status who, if deported to their country of origin, would face unacceptable social and inhumane hardship.
Sanctuary can only be given by a local congregation. Furthermore, the church asylum must take place on the grounds of the church community.
During the church asylum, all legal, social and humanitarian aspects to be considered are examined as part of the so-called dossier procedure. The aim of a dossier is to prove that the decision of the respective authority needs to be reviewed and that a new asylum procedure is promising. It should be noted in particular that church asylum is not a legal institution in its own right, but is respected by the state as an expression of a Christian-humanitarian tradition. The respective Catholic country office is responsible for submitting the dossier.
Please be advised that the catholic bureau is not allowed to grant church asylum to individuals in need. If you are in need for church asylum, please contact your local congregation. If they see themselves capable granting church asylum they will contact the catholic bureau.
